MBBS at Xinjiang Medical University (XJMU)

Xinjiang Medical University (XJMU), founded in 1956 in Urumqi, is the largest provincial-ministerial joint medical university in Xinjiang. The university operates across two main campuses and comprises 26 colleges, supported by a strong teaching and clinical network.

XJMU has 8 directly affiliated hospitals, 18 teaching hospitals and 95 internship hospitals, providing extensive clinical practice opportunities for students. The academic system includes 5 first-tier doctoral and 14 first-tier master's degree programs, with research capabilities recognized internationally by ESI rankings:

  • Clinical Medicine: top 2.07‰ globally.
  • Pharmacology & Toxicology: top 6.88‰ globally.
  • Biology & Biochemistry: top 9.84‰ globally.

XJMU began enrolling international students in 1990 and is recognized by the Ministry of Education as an outstanding institution for international education. Currently around 680 international students are enrolled and the university has trained more than 2,600 graduates from 41 countries.

Programs available to international students include Clinical Medicine (MBBS – English medium), Traditional Chinese Medicine, Stomatology and Pharmacy. For the MBBS program, HSK4 is required only at the time of graduation. The university is recognized by WHO (WDOMS), PMDC, NMC and other major global medical authorities.
